The Future of the Dairy Farm
Bonus Pastor has been working on the development of the dairy farm for almost six years and we find that it is still not generating a profit to support the therapy work and ministry. More than that, milk production has been slowly decreasing over the past two years. In reviewing all aspects of the situation, and in seeking outside expertise and advice, BPF became aware of the fact that farms of this size and type are normally run by families and that hired labour rarely has the same impact as dedicated work on one’s own property. A number of other negative factors have also contributed to the situation. However, with the amount of prayer, volunteer work and donations committed to this project over the years we always thought it would be better to try to solve the problems rather than abandoning it.
The renewed attempts made in the last year to make the farm profitable have proven, little by little, that it is not reasonable to continue to try to run it this way anymore: the tremendous work we all did is not bearing the hoped for fruit. After a thorough study of the situation and possible alternatives, BPF could clearly see that the best option woul be to close down the farm. We do not see why God planned things this way. However, we realize that He has closed doors in this direction so we think that this was the right and necessary decision at this time. We are confident that the farm project had its place in His plans and was was not in vain. We see some of its blessings, like the gifts of fellowship and working together during these six years. The experience gained during this time and the incomes from the planned sale are also clear results, although we might not see clearly all of the fruits.
The best way for BPF to proceed in the current situation is to sell the animals, equipment, machinery, feed and milk quotas and then, if possible, rent out the buildings. A purchase of most of the assets mentioned above and operating the farm at the current location is also an option.
We would be glad to see somebody doing this who was already involved in our dairy farm project or other Bonus Pastor work earlier. If you are interested in the farm, please write to our office address before 21 February.
We apologize to all who have been involved in the development of the farm. It saddens us to have to report this news.
