The 2% Campaign

This year we focused on organizing a campaign to increase domestic support here in Romania and to also increase interest in the Foundation’s programs. We tried to be practical and budget-minded at the same time, so we aimed to hit two targets simultaneously: tax-paying citizens and people who live in addiction.

A lovely woman from Brasov surprised us with her ingenious photo. The expressive power in it was so evident that we decided to structure our campaign of aiming at two targets around it. Herewith we would like to thank her for it!

“Money thrown out the window!” Destroying health, loosening social relationships and addiction are all things which cause financial and other hardships. Addiction is a disease which demands money. Furthermore, the addicted person spends money on what causes the disease, not even on beneficial medicine. Is it worth it? That is what the empty bottles displayed in the windows are talking about.

With the appeal “Your 2% would help to restart a life!” we asked working Romanian citizens this year to use the "Charitable Contribution Option" to redirect 2% of their income tax to our support account (which otherwise would simply go to the state budget). This program does not require additional charges and taxpayers only have to fill in a form and the staff of our Foundation handles the rest. This is an indirect way to contribute to making our society better. Many understand that people often need a second chance to be able to reorganize their chaotic lives.

In 2008 the 2% income tax redirection to our organization provided 3% of our domestic support. Hopefully this percentage will increase this year.

“If you can’t give up, call upon us.” We encourage everybody who is somehow involved in this issue of addiction to decide to change his or her life. The thousand mile journey starts with the first step only. One should not face a huge first step--just a small first step is needed. To complete our campaign, we also produced brochures in Hungarian and Romanian languages, in which we described in detail BPF’s programs and services. These brochures are put in the “pocket” of the larger posters and can be taken by anybody who is interested.
