Valiant Soldiers of Ozd
May 2011
Explanatory introduction: In this article you can read about a Short Therapy Program organized for addicts in Ozd, near Ludus, in which are located the fabulous castle, the granary, the ispotály (guest-house) - actually the Therapy Centre. The captain of the castle and the valiant soldiers are the staff members at the Centre and the soldiers are the resident participants in the therapy program.
So it was that many arrived at the castle in Ozd hanging their heads, disappointed, disheveled – there were some with smelly breath and some were smelling bitterness. You could almost touch in the air the bitterness over the lost battles and the “I won’t succeed anyway” atmosphere. The (former) granary, the still fabulous castle was our place of accommodation. Yes, my friends, there and then, we – the losers – felt like this was the promised redemption. We wanted and we hoped for a “miracle” from those two weeks.
We were numerous, came from many places and I can surely claim that we weren’t proud that we ended up here – however, everybody came freely and willingly. While looking at myself and the others I almost started to grin: Aha! We are those, who after returning, will very well show to the world, indeed show to the WORLD, that there is a way back from the loser position!
About the first evening I remember only the sighs and the silent “what am I doing here?” questions.
It became clear to me relatively soon that we were in an “ispotály” (guest-house), where we also would have to work on ourselves so that when we went back to the battlefields, we would not to live as some losers anymore! The captain and his helpers – the valiant soldiers – told us with smiles and patience that the “One for all, all for one!” motto works and with strong faith and with God’s help we could be happy! Me, an eternally skeptical man who was smiling invisibly and was asking with arched eyebrows, I was stupefied by seeing this confidence. The Lord will help Me? I’d already asked Him for help and He did not do anything for me! Oh well, it will happen right here, right now! Aha…
That’s that: I saw the first self-confident and "believing in the healing" smile on the faces of people for whom I wouldn’t have given a straw. The patience, the smile, the encouragement of our captain did not decrease, his helpers searched for an answer to all the questions, our community started to resemble a big family. The tone of the program was well chosen, the precise and suitable parables, the morning and evening discussions, the attention given to each other, all these were the medication. Those who had lost their faith learnt to smile again because of the frequent laughter. Those who had been left alone caught the hands which were outstretched toward them. Those who had a lack of confidence succeeded--dared to be themselves and those who were weak regained strength. I realized that I had to search for the faith and this was the place where I could find it
You can wave your hand in resignation, my friend, if you find it to be sentimental and miracle-like! I was there, I saw it, I experienced it and now I am telling it to You and to Everybody! Yes, the captain and the valiant soldiers of Ozd exist, God is taking care of all his soldiers!
