Challenges for Bonus Pastor Foundation in 2010

Five years after the Therapy Centre start-up, we face challenges we definitely need to answer in order to continue our work into the future. These are not new, however, they have grown to a level where major changes are needed.

Part of BPF income is derived from more-or-less reliable/predictable sources (such as regular donations, farm income, part of client fees or state subsidies). This component rose through 2009 to an amount covering 80% of the basic needs. We also receive one-time donations, which are hard to predict but still essential since we have a 20% deficit whenever they are missing. For this reason, since the Therapy Centre opened in 2005, we have had two financial crisis periods, with a third one occuring now.

Solving the 20% problem is essential for both financial reasons and to reduce pressure on the staff: it is quite demanding to work with addicted peope AND be facing constant financial insecurity.

Since there is no prospect of increasing state subsidies and business income in the next period, we aim to cover the missing 20% (9000 lei = 2200 euros = 1800 pounds = 2700 USD per month) from donations and – to a smaller degree – from client attendance fees.

We are very cautious with program fees since we wouldn't like to exclude anybody just because of financial reasons.

The good news about donations is that we still have a very extensive network of supporters and friends, people praying for this mission and/or donating from time to time, people coming to volunteer and offer their professional knowledge. So we aim to ask for small but regular donations from a large number of people.
